When you are looking for a ski instructor in Baqueira, the official qualification is the first filter to apply. Not because a certificate guarantees a good lesson, but because it shows that person has been through formal training, been assessed on technique and teaching, and works with proper insurance registered with ROPEC. It is the difference between a professional and somebody who simply skis well.

TD1: The First Step. TD2: The Full Qualification. TD3: Training the Trainers

TD1 is the first stage of training and qualifies an instructor to teach beginners. TD2 is the full intermediate qualification, internationally recognised, allowing teaching at any level. TD3 is the highest: it qualifies the holder to coach high-level skiers, direct schools and, most relevant here, to train other instructors. We have TD3, TD2 and TD1 in the team, which lets us match the right instructor to each student without forcing anything.

Two of our technical directors, Víctor Puche Fita and Emilio Fernando Gil, together with Juan Carlos Ramos, hold TD3 — and Víctor currently trains future instructors at SAFE Formación and INEFC. That is not decoration: it means what we apply on the snow with our students has already been held to the same standard we require of the people we teach to teach.

Skiing, Enjoying and Teaching in Baqueira Since 2001: The Terrain Is Part of the Lesson

Twenty years in a resort is not only teaching experience. It is knowing which areas hold the best powder after a fall, how the snowpack changes with aspect and time of day, where the crowds are and where they are not, which runs suit consolidating an advanced snowplough and which suit starting to carve without pressure. It is understanding that when somebody arrives in Baqueira Beret for the first time, the effect of the landscape is as much part of the learning as the turn they are attempting.

That real knowledge of Val d'Aran is not bought with a single season. It accumulates run by run, season by season, living the resort from the inside.

This distinction matters more than it sounds. An instructor who skis because they love skiing conveys something you notice on the first run: the movement makes sense, the mountain has value, the lesson has a purpose beyond the hour you paid for. Technical director with extensive experience training instructors. A pioneer in using Carv and AI applied to skiing: he leads the national rankings with a world-class IQ of 170. Brand ambassador for Rossignol, Dynastar, Briko and Lange since 2015. His students return year after year, some having skied with him for more than 18 seasons. That is not built on technique alone.

Experience: More than 20 seasons skiing in Chile (El Colorado) and over 6 teaching in Baqueira Beret. International experience across Europe and South America.

The daughter of a ski instructor, Anto grew up among mountains and found her vocation early. With dual official qualifications in skiing and snowboarding, she brings the team an unusual versatility. Her energy, technique and good humour carry through every lesson. In love with Val d'Aran, she conveys a deep respect for the mountains and for alpine life in every session.

Skiing runs in his family: his father has been an instructor for more than 40 years and his uncles have run a school, a shop and a rental business in Alto Campoo. He started skiing at three and competed in three Spanish Championships at junior level. His TD2 training at SAFE alongside part of the DEMO team gave him a solid technical base, which he combines with the passion and rigour he grew up with. He has the hunger of somebody building a career on real foundations.

The most specialised high-performance profile in the team. His time in adaptive skiing at national level has given him an exceptional eye and an exceptional ability to adapt his method. When Juanka watches somebody ski down, he sees things others do not. He is Aranese, which connects him in a particular way to the culture and setting of the valley.

A former alpine racer up to the age of 15 and runner-up in the Madrid championship in his category. His three seasons in Crans-Montana gave him an international perspective that enriches his work in Baqueira. Before the Lesson: Assessment and Matching the Right Instructor

We do not assign instructors by who is free. We assign by fit. Before your first lesson we assess your level, your goals and your situation, either from a video sent on WhatsApp or a quick conversation. That lets us prepare the session with a clear technical goal from the first minute, instead of spending time on the snow discovering what we could already have known.

Even when we are not the ones teaching your lesson that day, we are in it. As technical directors we speak with each instructor before and after every session: how it went, what worked, what blocks came up, and what the student achieved, however small. We know each student's name, their history with skiing, their fears and their goals.

And if there is anything we can adjust or improve to make the experience better, we do it without waiting to be asked. At the end of the first session we ask for feedback — not as a formality, but because we want to know how it went, to know you better, and to shape the following lessons if we need to.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ski Instructors in Baqueira

At least TD1, registered with ROPEC in Catalonia, and properly insured. TD2 is the full intermediate qualification with international recognition. TD3 is the highest level, qualifying the holder to coach racers and train other instructors. We have instructors at every level, from TD1 to TD3.

The official term in Spain is Técnico Deportivo (TD), not monitor or teacher; in everyday speech they are used interchangeably. What matters is the official qualification. A TD3 instructor has the most complete training in technique, biomechanics, teaching and method. All our instructors hold accredited official qualifications.

TD3 is the highest official qualification in alpine skiing in Spain, equivalent to a higher vocational diploma. It qualifies the holder to coach high-level skiers, direct schools and train other sports technicians. Our technical directors, Víctor Puche Fita and Emilio Fernando Gil, hold TD3 and also train future instructors at SAFE Formación and INEFC.

Yes. Teaching skiing for payment without an official qualification is illegal in Spain, and Baqueira Beret requires accreditation from every instructor working in the resort. Without it, an instructor has no public liability insurance, which can have serious consequences in the event of an accident.

We teach children from age 3 for skiing, with formats adapted to each age, and from 5 or 6 for snowboarding. We take each child's motor development and readiness into account. For the youngest we run formats with very low ratios and two instructors at once when the group needs it.

The price of a private lesson in Baqueira varies with the school, the length, the number of students and whether it is low or high season. As a guide, prices range from €80 for one student for one hour in high season at some schools, down to €55 for one student for one hour in the lowest season at the most discounted times. The official qualification is the first filter. Then specific experience with children: teaching an adult and teaching a five-year-old are completely different things. Communication beforehand matters too — if the instructor replies quickly, explains things well and works around your dates, that tells you something. And look for verifiable references from other families rather than anonymous ratings.
